Enduro and Trail Riding
The 2012 Yamaha wr450 is going to the twin chamber fork found on the mx range!!!!
Rider to Bike Setup
Many of todays trail/enduro bikes are on the heavy side but come equiped with soft springs, especially in the forks. This results in a fork that rides low in the stoke, giving the rider a harsh and jarring ride, and increased fatigue
Feedback from my customers tells me that I have the answer....
The first thing we need to look at is springs, they determine in which part of the travel the bike sits once the rider is on board with all his gear, fuel etc.
Most of todays bikes are sold with springs to suit riders in the 75-85 kg range.
Oversize fuel tanks etc may also influence your spring needs.
Fork springs $170pair.
Shock springs $180.
Revalving: Revalving is all about setting up the fork and shock internal shim stacks to suit your height, weight, ability and the type of terrain you ride.
Fork revalve:
Offroad bikes don't always get the fancy new forks that are found on the motocross bikes.
This can sometimes compromise fork performance as the pistons (valves) used on the compression adjuster assembly use smaller pistons with smaller ports. These small port pistons can actually restrict oil flow on sharp hard hits resulting in midstroke harshness, fatigue.....etc.
We want the forks damping, at the adjuster to be controlled by the shim stack and not the piston itself. The answer is to replace the piston with one that has bigger ports allowing the oil flow to be controlled by the shim stack, this combined with extensive midvalve mods.......
the midvalve is located on the end of the forks internal damper rod and plays a major role as it controls the initial part of the forks stroke, as well as the speed and the amount of oil fed to the compression adjuster.
........these mods will give you a fork that is super supple over small roots, rocks and square edged holes as well as having increased bottoming resistance for those unexpected hits you dont always see coming!
Your bike will also corner and track much better through all types of ruts and high speed terrain.
THE PRICE:
Fork revalve/service and setup using big port pistons $350.00 (plus wear parts if needed)
This also includes everything listed in the below service.
Shock revalve:
Unlike the forks, most trail bikes have rear shocks that with some piston and valving mods, as well as careful setup can be made to work outstandingly well.
These mods can include.....
: checking piston band and shock body tolerances (a major problem on the husky TE sachs shocks)
: slight lowering of the rear shock. Front and rear balance is very important.
: modifications to piston compression and rebound ports to increase flow and reduce turbulance
: compression shim stack tuning
: rebound shim stack tuning
......these mods will give you a rear shock that provides you with increased traction and performance as the shock is now able to absorb roots, rocks and square edged bumps under both acceleration and braking. And just like in the forks - bottoming resistance is also increased without sacrificing small bump absorption!
THE PRICE:
Shock revalve/service and setup using stock pistons $180.00 (plus wear parts if needed)
This also includes everything listed in the below service.
SERVICE/REBUILD FORK SERVICE AND NEW SEALS $150
In order to keep your suspension in good shape a suspension service is recommended after every 30-40 hours of riding depending on the type of riding you do. Past this point you could experience loss of dampening and extra wear on the internal parts. Professional racing requires a rebuild after 20 hours of riding. Rebuild maintenance will keep your ride consistent and help to eliminate excessive wear of component items such as shock body and shock shaft.
FORK SERVICE $110
This includes a full tear down cleaning and inspection. All high wear items are inspected and measured for wear. Parts are only replaced at your approval. Your forks are then re-assembled and filled with quality fork oil. For fork seal replacement add $30-$40 depending on make and model. Price $110 plus parts where needed
SHOCK SERVICE $100
KTM PDS SERVICE $120
This includes a full tear down cleaning and inspection. All high wear items are inspected and measured for wear.Your shock is then re-assembled using high quality shock fluid and then thoroughly bled to remove all air. Parts are only replaced at your approval. We then recharge your shock with 100% pure nitrogen. Price $100 plus parts where needed.
